Graf # 6 (Unique)

Do you want to be special?   To feel unique, important, needed.  We all do.  And we all are, in a multitude of ways greater than any computer could calculate, individual.  Details mixed with details.  Spinning a web side to side, connecting the dots.  A collaboration that leaves you with a one in six billion shot at being truly one of a kind, unique.  For me it’s the rooster first thing in the morning, the sound of thick diesel being urged into the lines on cold mornings.  The smell of organic, everything.  My mother, singing at the top of her lungs, whenever the mood would strike.  Father, always planning, what to plant where, managing crews, brainstorming marketing, saving the world.  All in a day’s work.  Animals, are everywhere here.  Bella, my Chesapeake retriever, gallivanting around with four other dogs playing amongst pigs, horses, chickens and the like.  And then a flash, and it has changed.  I open my eyes to a brightly lit computer screen, 150 miles south of home, mashing out an essay, researching a topic, study, study, study.  No dirt here, no loud machinery, no… air.  It’s a change, but for 8 months I learn to deal, because I know that at the end of those 8 months I’ll get to leave.  To go, home.

  1. Ah, nice--real writing, not student-assignment writing. A pleasure to read, an oasis in a desert, a writer at play in his head in the playground of words.
